A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR ALL THE PREGNANT MOMS OUT THERE

From Elisabeth Elliot's A Heart for God --

"A mother is a chalice, the vessel without which no human being has ever been born. she is created to be a life-bearer, cooperating with her husband and with God in the making of a child. What a solemn responsibility. What an unspeakable privelege - a vessel divinely prepared for the Master's use."

That message is on May 12th of my A Heart for God flip calendar. Here are two more that I think are appropriate considering the subject of the book we're reviewing --

"Motherhood requires self-giving, sacrifice, suffering. It is a going down into death in order to give life, a great human analogy of a great spiritual principle."

"The process of shaping the child shapes also the mother herself. Reverence for her sacred burden calls her to all that is pure and good, that she may teach primarily by her own humble, daily example."

I'm thinking of all you pregnant and very pregnant moms out there (Molly and Ruthanne :) Grace and peace to you all.

Oh Meredith, thank you for your kind thoughts and encouragement from Elisabeth Elliot. I'm touched to be included in those you're remembering today.

((Hugs)) :)

I'm going to print this out a stick it where I can see it everyday. I am 8 1/2 weeks along and really struggling with my attitude. I knew God was preparing me for growth as He had been encouraging me to walk by His Spirit and not my flesh. And being pregnant has really tightened the screws, so to speak, I feel stretched to the limits right now and yet He is still sufficient and I need to rest in Him. I am feeling shaped, it is soooo not feeling very good.
Thank you for your encouragement!
P.s. I just read your comment over at Ann's. I do the same, multi-reading! I was given the book by a neighbor 15 years ago, and am just now reading it. It seems the right timing though.
God bless you~

Ruthanne - ((hugs)) to you as well.

Roberta - you'll be in my prayers today. This is your fourth, right? Are you very sick? I got sicker with each successive pregnancy and now, even though I long to be pregnant again I don't look forward to the sickness. Lord willing, that will be a stretching time for me and then you can encourage me, OK!

Blessings.

Thanks for your prayers. I did tell you we have three, but this will actually be our 5th, (our 2nd died when he was 5 days old). And I must say feel a smidge of anxiety over holding a baby boy again. Like you, each pregnanacy I became progressively sicker, but I have had my thyroid regulated and so my morning sickness is less than with baby #1. Praise God!!! This is my first surprise pregnancy (even though we do believe every baby is a blessing)and I don't feel very strong. God is working in my heart and attitude.
I pray God will open your womb in His perfect time. Maybe you could just do the "stretching" part now, and then just enjoy the pregnancy. Is that possible? ;)
God bless you,
Roberta :)
