THE UNNOTICEABLE CREEP
I've been thinking about the sensibilities of this world. What are they anyway? What are the moods and attitudes that dominate our culture and how have I adopted them? Just think about the way television is set up. Pictures flash before our eyes and change in seconds. Commercials are constantly grabbing at us to pay attention to this new product and that new technology. Television episodes are now called events. Have you ever thought about that? In order to get our attention producers and writers have to exaggerate the importance of their product. They must in order to surmount the other noise that competes for our attention.
Houses are getting bigger and flashier while cell phones get smaller and faster. Everything must be newer, brighter, more exciting.
How am I different when I sit in front of this computer and surf quickly from site to site looking for the next big headline, the next piece of gossip? Haven't I adopted the same sensibility? Groping along for satisfaction, something to feed my hungry soul. For isn't that the root of all our searching and striving in this world? We have been created for something transcendent and yet we settle for twaddle.
Turn off the radio, turn off the TV. Be quiet. Look in your children's eyes. Watch the munching squirrel who sits contentedly in your yard. He has everything he needs. Don't you?
"These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things." Psalm 104:27-28
"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.'" John 6:35

Hi Meredith~
So true...have been avoiding the busy-ness of FB for this reason too. :)
Have you heard of Nancy Twigg? I just bought (and already finished) her book From Clutter to Clarity.
She adresses clutter of thoughts and attitudes, time and possessions, money and resources, and defines clutter as anything that complicates your life and prevents you from living in peace as you live out your purpose.
It was simple enough to be an easy read, yet deep enough to adress issues of my heart. (I took notes as I read.)
Hoe you are having a blessed week.
