WORTH CONTEMPLATING
Thanks to Amy from Humble Musings for this link. Josh Harris is the senior pastor here and the author of these popular books on courtship and purity. Josh takes Romans 13:14 and explains what the flesh means and how to make no provision for it. He includes some interesting cartoons he drew that actually help his explanation a lot. His main concern in the post is what kind of media Christians expose themselves to. He contends that the main area where Christians "feed their flesh" is in media, especially TV. His argument has encapsulated exactly how I feel about certain programs like American Idol. I've tried to think through my reasons why I should avoid that and other shows. Without giving away the whole argument I'll just quote his last sentence which stopped me in my tracks. I'll be asking myself this question next time I'm tempted to switch the channel ~
"Friends, what we view in media becomes our meditation. It either feeds our desire for godliness or it feeds our flesh. Which one are you feeding?"

I saw the cartoon last week through The Rebelution (Josh's younger brothers' site), and enjoyed it.
The ending quote there was amazing. It's so true; and sometimes I spend more time meditating on visual media than I do the Word of God...Wow. Now there's food for thought!

Okay...if I can just stop laughing from Karen's avatar there...LOL...
I saw this also at Alex and Brett's, Must have missed it at Amy's. Frighteningly true. I have been thinking about this too, what have I set my gaze upon.
Yes, "visual media", blogs in particular, can be captivating for me. I soak up the info, the creativity, the "relationship", but am I having double vision so that I stumble?
You are such the thought provoker.
:)
My ava-WHAT?!
Off to dictionary.com...thanks a heap!

Hey Meredith:
In the middle of week two with no television whatsoever and I have to tell you, I like it a LOT! No Grey's, no Idol, no 24...oh, wait. Not that last one. Don't like missing that last one! But all the rest.....chaff.

Denise, No TV for two weeks?? I'm so proud of you! I didn't realize you were going to do this. I empathize with you about 24. When I was visiting my in laws in January they got me hooked by watching a couple of episodes of season 1 per night. I haven't gone out to get season 2 yet but it was pretty compelling.
See you tomorrow night hopefully!
Meredith- This has nothing to do with the topic of this post (though I do read Amy's blog, too) but I just wanted to say how wonderful the Easter Story was at church again this year. We all enjoyed it very much!
Meredith:
Easter Story is over.....you need to get back to blogging! Where are yoooooouuuu?
