BLOGGING AND 1 THESSALONIANS 4:11-12

"Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody."

Is obeying this verse possible in the world of blogs, Google and instant information? How tempting is it to surf around the Internet for hours, figuratively peeking into other people's lives via computer screen. How many times have I gotten myself embroiled in one Christian controversy after another - through a bulletin board, a blog or a chat room? How often has my husband had to calm me down after I've discovered some interesting gossip about so-and-so in the Christian community?

Well, I for one, am done. I've been amply convicted by this whole controversy surrounding the film The End of the Spear, that I need to lead a more quiet life and mind my own business. Since when have I been called to make careful inventory of the lives of other brothers and sisters in Christ? Just because they may be in a leadership position, that doesn't mean I'm called to scrutinize their every action and sit on my own private judgment seat. That is not what Jesus meant when He said to examine their fruit. Lord, have mercy on me a sinner! Galatians 6:10, Romans 14:19 and Proverbs 6:16-19 pretty much summarize it all ~

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."

"Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification."

"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers."

Meredith,

Does this mean you will stop blogging?

I understand, I worry about these things myself. I think these are good warnings

Meredith~
It's so interesting how whenever you post something the topic has been mulling around in my mind as well. I've been thinking about blogging in regards to time and and purpose and habits as well as the Titus2 example. Have been listening to a tape by Gregg Harris on time...will post about it later.
I think this is a topic that needs constant re-visiting.

Cindy,
I'm not going to stop blogging. But I think I've been humbled and taught by some recent events that has made me even more circumspect of my motives.

Roberta,
I knew we were kindred spirits! I look forward to your post. Where is Gregg Harris from? How's little Noah?

Blessings.

My Southern twin~
Gregg Harris was the "teaching elder" at our church back in Oregon. He has been a great influence in the homeschool movement and , is the father of Joshua Harris (I kissed dating goodbye) and Brett and Alex (Rebelution blog), He has a blog too. (I think the links are in Karen's sidebar) They are a very down-to-earth real family, and very purposeful. The website hofcc.org has info for a few sermons that can be downloaded, some are other teachers as well, many of the men from the elder institute take a go at teaching as well.
Noah is a sweet snuggly sleepy boy. I was thinking of posting on him but it would be...he sleeps...he fusses...he nurses...he sleeps again. LOL. He is very well and healthy and chunkin' up. Thanks for asking.
