ANYONE UP FOR A BOOK REVIEW?

I've been very encouraged reading the reviews of Created to be His Helpmeet by Molly, Kristen, Jenna and others. This has inspired me to review a book on my blog. I'd love it if someone else wanted to join me. I haven't decided on a book but here are some suggestions --

1. Future Grace by John Piper
2. Shepherding a Child's Heart by Ted Tripp

Any takers? I'm open to any other book suggestions also.

Well, I'd have to search Erik's office to see if we have that Piper book (it's possible); otherwise, I vote for Tripp's. I began reading it, and became so convicted in the first chapter that I couldn't go on. Well. I COULD have, but didn't. THAT book I know where it is (in my nightstand where I left it!).

But we can get the Piper book if there are others that want to do that one instead.

Count me in.

I have been encouraged too! (and convicted). I would love to follow along in a book study, do I have to blog? I have Sheperding a Child's Heart, and the study book with it. Have had trouble diving into it (I've heard others say the same) but I'm willing to give it a go. I also have 'Keeping Our Children's Hearts' by the Maxwell's. Do either of you have that one?

I THINK we have the Maxwell one...they spoke recently in our area, and we bought several books. Once again, I'd have to do some excavating in my husband's office, but I'm willing to for either one! :-)

Yep, I looked (just a small archaelogical dig necessary!) and we do have the Maxwell's book. I am up to ANYTHING. I also LOVE Piper's writings. Meredith??

Hey ladies, I'm still here! I'm a little under the weather right now. I think the Tripp book would be great to start. While I love Piper, I think reviewing one of his books on a blog would be hard because they are sooo deep. I feel I'd be writing really long posts just to scratch the surface :)

I didn't know there was a study guide for Shepherding a Child's Heart. Do you really think we need that? I don't think we do. Anyway, I don't have the Maxwell book.

Roberta, please consider getting a blog, it's really easy. Take it from me, who's very techno-illiterate. If you don't want to I think it would be fine to record your review in the comment section.

Shepherding a Child's Heart sounds great to me...Is anyone else going to join us?

And Roberta, YES! You really should start a blog. If you don't know what to write, just let it be a place to put your revelations from the Tripp book! ;-D

Karen, Roberta and others who may be interested,

I will keep this post at the top of my blog for another day to see if there are any other takers.

After tomorrow I'll email you with suggestions about how much we should read and when we should start posting. Does that sound good?

(By the way, Karen, I keep having to remind myself that you're three hours behind. If I post something at 6-7am you won't be reading it probably until 10-11am my time. And if you post something at 9-10pm my time, I'm snoozing away usually! ;)

Sheperding a Child's Heart sounds great, I won't pack it!
I will talk to my husband about the BLOG, we'll see. "Roberta's Rambling Rhetoric" LOL okay, I'll work on a name.:)
Good to know the time zone difference, I was wondering how far ahead you were. I'm in the same timezone as Karen.
Looking forward to it!

Fair Warning:

If you pick Tripp's book, you may get some SERIOUS flack for it. Among our "gentle mother" blog sisters, Tripp is a teacher of "punitive/adversarial parenting" (some have even left their churches because the church did a book study w/ Tripp's book or invited Tripp to come and speak!!!).

I learned about all this when I did my little "series" on parental discipline...
(You can go here to get a little taste of the mindset I'm talking about:

Anyways, they may not get wind of what you're doing at all...but if they do, be prepared for an onslaught! (blech!)...

(PS--I do hope you do it anyway! Heehee...I just wanted you to have fair warning ahead of time, that's all). :o)

Thanks for the warning Molly. I guess I'm going to have to do some praying about this in case I get some negative comments. I've respected how you've handled opposite opinions on your blog and I hope to be as gracious and yet faithful to God's word.

And as with other books, I pray we will be good Bereans and measure it by the most important Book.

Thanks.

WELL! IF there's one thing I really like, it's a good controversy! ;-D

Just kidding.

However, if you'd recommended an Ezzo book, I would not have joined in, because I wouldn't have wanted to offend anyone!

I'm still "in" and I promise to be a Berean and search the Word diligently.

I wish I could join in, too! I have Ted Tripp's book... but since I don't have a blog, and I'm not likely to be able to get one anytime soon, I guess I'll just enjoy the posts you ladies put out.

I guess I'll just be a faithful reader... you need them, too, right? :~)

Hi, Meredith! You said over on Molly's blog that you were willing to bless me with a copy of CTBHHM? Well, here I am, taking you up on it! If you want to email me, it's ralig@netzero.net. That is so sweet and encouraging to me. I love the internet! I've felt so alone lately, and then I find all these people that are like me. It's so refreshing (and my husband tells me that it's a little scary, too).

Aleta, please don't feel left out. Once we start reviewing you can feel free to jump in the conversation using the comment section!

Teresa, welcome! I'm so glad you took me up on the offer. I'll email you tomorrow.

Gotta go put the little ones to bed. Look for a post on Ted Tripp's book in the next week or so.
Blessings.

Hey, I want to jump into too. A book review sounds fun. I have been out for a few days because of power and phone problems.

Lis, this will be good if you would like to read along and post your reviews on your blog as well. That makes three of us and maybe four if/when Roberta gets a blog.
