A GREAT DAY!

We had a great time on Saturday racing for research. There were nine of us on Team Logan and we had t-shirts on that said, Legs for Logan. Logan and his whole family were there to cheer us on. I ran/walked with my son while my awesome husband broke his time goal by 2 minutes to run a 28 minute 5K. Hey! It's taken me six months to run a 30 minutes 5K. He's only trained for two weeks! Just kidding. I am so proud of my husband and definitely pleased that we could show our love and support to this great family. Lord willing, we'll be doing it again next year.

One of the sponsors of the race was our local Atlanta news station, 11Alive. Go to this link and you can see a short news video reporting on the race.

COUNTDOWN TO RACE DAY 4

GLORIFY GOD IN ALL YOU DO!

I have always been a sort of sports junkie and now that I've started running I've been reading running magazines and getting to know the elite runners of the world. Ryan Hall is one of those elite runners and he is also a devout follower of Christ. Please go to this link to watch him run and give his testimony. It is simply beautiful. Ryan will be running the marathon at the Olympics in Beijing. No matter where he finishes I pray that God would be glorified as he runs for Him.

COUNTDOWN TO RACE DAY 3

WHAT ARE YOUR LIMITATIONS?

At the end of 2007 I realized I needed to change some things if I didn't want the scale to keep creeping up. I wasn't overweight but the scale was entering an area I had never seen before (except while I was pregnant). I didn't like it. The frustrating thing was I had been exercising 4-5 days a week for over a year. I knew I had to do something different but I wasn't sure I really wanted to. So I asked myself some crazy questions, "What would happen if you set a goal to do a "mini" triathlon by the time you're 40?" , "What would happen if you started running again?" and "What would it take to really get fit and would it really be worth it?"

Six months later I have answered two of those three questions. Number one - I love running. Number 2 - It's hard work to get fit but the results are definitely worth it. And just yesterday I think I've found my inspiration for the triathlon question. This is a picture of Sister Madonna. Yes, she's a nun, and yes, she has done a triathlon. But to say she's done a triathlon is a huge understatement. Here's her story - Sister Madonna Buder started running after the age of 50 and before long she was training for marathons. In seven years she finished 37 marathons! At the age of 52 she started training for triathlons and since then has finished over 300(!) including 34 full Ironmans (2.4 mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2 mile run). And she doesn't just finish these races - she sets records. In 1996 she set the world record for her age group in an Ironman. In 2005, at the age of 75, she became the oldest woman to complete the Hawaii Ironman.

So what are your limitations? What are some hard things you'd like to attempt but are afraid to. I think Sister Madonna is an inspiration to all of us who ever thought of ourselves as non-athletes or that it was too late to start getting fit.

COUNTDOWN TO RACE DAY 2

SHOUT OUT TO MY HUSBAND!

For the past six months I've been a little obnoxious about this new running habit. I've been hoping my husband would take up his favorite pasttime again and join me. On Sunday we were talking to Logan's mom and another friend and found out that some other people were going to be running in the race. I think that inspired my husband (or maybe made him feel guilty?) enough to mention that he might run the race too. Well, lo and behold, last night he laced up his old running shoes and went for a run. Yeah for Tim!!!! Way to go!!!! He hasn't registered for the race yet but I'll keep you posted.

COUNTDOWN TO RACE DAY
Here's a precious picture of Logan (on the left) and my son Jonathan. This was taken last summer just days before Logan's first surgery. They were in the same Sunday School class last year and their teachers hosted a pool party for them at the end of the year. What a brave boy. I still can't believe he was there considering the major surgery that awaited him. His parents have done a great job in trying to keep his life as normal as possible. Last year I was a helper in 4th/5th grade children's choir and even though Logan missed some time during the year because of treatments, he kept coming back to sing. Our choir director was wonderful too. She made every effort to include Logan in choir and helped him as he lost some of his vision. The kids played the recorder and Logan had the music blown up to a bigger size so he could read the notes. When he was gone she had the kids make get well cards for him. Our church has been a great support for this family over the past year. I hope you have a support system like this too.
Blessings!
