AREN'T YOU PROUD OF THIS GUY?!
You may remember previous posts about this little guy. He is my precious little second son who has been a slow reader from day one. He started second grade this year still reading short vowel three letter words. He would get tripped up as soon as long vowels were introduced. I worried about it for a long time and prayed about it too. I never felt led to have him tested and finally came to a place where I was content to wait for him while having him read easy Bob books over and over.
One of the most precious things about homeschooling is watching that light bulb go off. It doesn't happen every day, but every so often it's like a little switch will get turned on in their brains and all of a sudden they can understand something they haven't 'gotten' before. About two months ago, my little guy here had a big switch flipped in his brain and there was no turning back now. He wants to read everything in sight. Here are three of the first five "real" books he read - Wacky Wednesday, Mr. Brown Can Moo, and Henry and Mudge - the first book. He has been decoding words we've never gone over before and it's blowing me away. His favorite books are Dr. Seuss and he's realizing now that he can read a lot of them by himself. It's so exciting and I am sooo proud of him.
